Biography

Dr. Zech is a professor of reproductive medicine and in vitro fertilization (IVF) techniques. He is involved in the treatment of azoospermia. From 1979 to 1981, Dr. Zech was assistant and later senior physician at the University Clinic for Gynecology in Graz, after which he worked as senior physician at the University Clinic for Gynecology in Innsbruck. In 1986, triplets were born for the first time in Innsbruck after in vitro fertilization treatment for infertility by Herbert Zech.

In 1988, he succeeded in obtaining the first pregnancy after using artificial insemination techniques in Moscow. His work as a reproductologist in the Austrian province of Vorarlberg was heavily criticized by the public. The Vorarlberger Nachrichten newspaper published an article in March 1988 titled «A child ‘from a test tube’ cannot be the future».

In 1988, Herbert Zech founded the Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Endocrinology in Bregenz as the first private hospital for fertilization techniques in Austria. Herbert Zech expanded his territory by establishing IVF institutes in Meran (2001), Niedersauwil (2002), Pilsen (2003), Salzburg (2005), Karlovy Vary (2008) and Vaduz (2012).

Infertility today is not a sentence. A large number of different techniques have been developed that make it possible to conceive a child. Herbert Zech IVF centers are leading European clinics. In addition to his knowledge of gynecology, Herbert Zech has additional specialization in obstetrics, gynecological endocrinology and reproductive medicine. After defending his dissertation, Dr. Zech held a professorship at the Medical University of Innsbruck.

The causes for infertility are many. In the IVF centers of Herbert Zech conduct diagnostics, determine the cause for infertility. After that, the appropriate treatment methods are determined: hormone therapy for follicle stimulation, insemination, intraplasmic injection of sperm into the egg, or intracytoplasmic morphologically selected sperm injection. In addition, special techniques are used to obtain spermatozoa for the purpose of subsequent fertilization of the egg. In addition to in vitro fertilization techniques, IVF centers have the option for sperm cryopreservation.

Dr. Herbert Zech has extensive experience in managing infertile couples and using in vitro fertilization techniques. He deals with the most difficult cases where the chance of success is minimal.
