Biography

Otorhinolaryngology is a rather complex specialty. In order to become a good specialist in this field, it is necessary to go through a difficult path of learning and acquiring skills, which is what Prof. Christoph Klingmann has done.

Prof. Christoph Klingmann has a truly extensive experience in otorhinolaryngology, which has made him a well known professional throughout Germany and in particular in Munich.

Christoph received his basic medical education at the Ruprecht-Karl University of Heidelberg, which is one of the most prestigious and oldest universities in Germany. After studying until 1998 and doing a lot of research while still a student, he completed a year-long internship at the Haslar Royal Hospital of the University of Southampton, which is located in the UK and is ranked among the top 100 universities in the world. After that Christoph returned to Germany, where he continued his further studies. From 1999 to 2000 Christoph Klingmann worked as a junior doctor at the ENT Clinic of the University of Heidelberg under the supervision of the clinic director, Prof. N. Weidauer.

Already as a young man, Klingmann had a passion for scuba diving, which was the impetus for gaining additional knowledge in the field of ENT and the use of high-pressure oxygen (so-called hyperbaric oxygenation). By conducting research at the ENT clinic, Dr. Christoph Klingmann obtained interesting results, which were appreciated by the Society of Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine. In 2002, Christoph Klingmann received an award on behalf of the Society. In the same year Christoph completed his thesis on «Intrapulmonary shunt in divers. The relationship between brain lesions and the development of emergencies in divers», which was accepted with great approval by the committee members.

Also, in 2002, Christoph Klingmann became head of the consulting ENT department at the University Hospital Heidelberg for divers.

From 2001 to 2004, Christoph Klingmann worked at the ENT Clinic as a resident, and after his training and practical experience, he passed the certification examinations, so from 2004 Christoph worked as a senior doctor in the department under the direction of the clinic’s director, Prof. P. C. Plinkert. In addition, during the same period of time, Dr. Klingmann was trained in allergology and became head of the Department of Allergology at the Heidelberg ENT Clinic in 2004. Since the same year, Christoph Klingmann has been elected as a member of the board of directors of the Society for Underwater Hyperbaric Medicine.

Since 2007, a series of educational cycles to further his work in otorhinolaryngology has been ongoing. Already then Christoph Klingmann had the idea of establishing his own private ENT center, for which he completed a master’s program from 2007 to 2009, which gave him the opportunity to work as head of department or chief physician in hospitals at the universities of Kaiserslautern and Witten. This program in health management and social development subsequently helped the doctor to open his own ENT center.

In addition, Christoph Klingmann received a further qualification in 2008 in ENT surgery and completed his doctoral thesis, the defense of which was a great success. In 2008, after training various groups of students and residents, Christoph Klingmann was appointed assistant professor at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology.

In 2010, while training in earplasty and surgery at the North West University in the UK, Plymouth, Christoph worked there as a doctor in the hyperbaric oxygenation unit for divers.

In 2011, he worked as a senior doctor and head of underwater medicine at the DIAKO Clinic for ENT and Plastic Surgery in Bremen under the direct supervision of Prof. E. Di Martino, MD.

By the end of 2012, Dr. Christoph Klingmann had received additional qualifications in the field of aesthetic and reconstructive surgery of the maxillofacial region, and in the same year he opened his ENT Center at Odeonsplatz in Munich. This center provides a wide range of services in the diagnosis and treatment of all pathologies of the ENT organs, and is considered one of the first ENT centers in Munich to provide ENT care for divers.

Since 2013, Christoph Klingmann, in addition to running the clinic, has been training students, residents and postgraduates to become ENT physicians. He also prepares international lectures and courses and speaks at various conferences and forums. In addition, Christoph has been the head of the international forum for ENT diseases in Munich since 2015.

Under the direction of Dr. Christoph Klingmann, a large number of books, articles and monographs have been written on ENT problems in divers, pilots, as well as describing the diagnosis and treatment of ENT pathologies in adults and children. His contribution to the development of microsurgery and minimally invasive surgery is enormous. Dr. Christoph Klingmann’s main focus is on the functional and aesthetic side of the issue, because sometimes after treatment patients need to restore aesthetic beauty, which is the key to rapid rehabilitation.

Dr. Christoph Klingmann has knowledge and skills in the treatment of chronic and acute diseases of the ear, throat, nose and sinuses. He also performs plastic surgery for ear and nose surgery. In addition, he performs head and neck surgery, removing various tumors and masses.

Dr. Christoph Klingmann has performed about two thousand operations on the ear, throat, nose and sinuses. The doctor has almost thirty years of experience as a specialist in diving and hyperbaric medicine, not only building up his practice but also sharing his knowledge with young doctors and students. His book «Modern Diver Medicine» is in great demand among divers, snorkelers, ENT doctors and people involved in diving medicine. Dr. Klingmann has also gone far in the treatment of allergic diseases and sleep disorders.

Christophe realizes continuous improvement and exchange of experience by participating in various conferences where he is a member of the leadership team.

Since 2012, Christoph Klingmann has been a member of the German Professional Society of ENT Specialists, a member of the German Academy of ENT Physicians and the Allergy Medical Association. In addition, he is a member of the societies for diving and hyperbaric medicine in Germany and the South Pacific.

In addition to developing and working in his own ENT center, the doctor additionally works at the Gertner ENT Clinic. The clinic provides care for various pathologies of the ear, throat and nose, and also performs nose and earplasty surgeries. The hospital as well as the ENT Center is located in Munich. Its work began back in 1953.

Every year, the Gertner Clinic performs about 500 operations for otitis media of varying severity and peritonsillar abscesses. In addition, the clinic provides conservative treatment for patients with facial nerve palsy and various oral inflammations.

Since 1999, Dr. Gertner’s clinic has had a special hearing restoration program in which Dr. Klingmann has been actively involved, introducing modern techniques for the treatment of hearing loss.

Also, Dr. Klingmann on the basis of the Gertner Clinic performs various plastic surgeries to change the shape of the ears and nose, facial plastic surgery.

The clinic performs removal of tattoos, scars and scars.
