В этой статье вы узнаете:
Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating caused by an inadequate response of the sweat glands. Treatment of hyperhidrosis is necessary for people in whom hyperhidrosis causes psychological discomfort.
CLASSIFICATION
In medicine, there are several classifications of hyperhidrosis.
By localization:
- Axillary (excessive underarm sweating)
- Plantar
- Palm
- Hyperhidrosis of the head
- Generalized hyperhidrosis.
The following types of excessive sweating are distinguished by severity:
- Mild
- Medium
- Severe.
CAUSES
Distinguish two groups of causes that lead to hyperhidrosis:
Physiological:
- Increase in ambient temperature
- Physical stress
- Psycho-emotional stress.
Pathologic:
- Endocrine diseases (diabetes mellitus, thyroid diseases, menopause)
- Pathology of the nervous system
- Infectious diseases
- Tumors.
DIAGNOSTICS
To find out the causes leading to excessive sweating, it is necessary to undergo laboratory and instrumental studies.
In the absence of pathological causes, a diagnosis of primary hyperhidrosis is made.
A Minor’s test or iodine-starch test is performed on patients to determine the area of excessive sweating.
Iodine is applied to the area of suspected hyperhidrosis, followed by potato starch. In areas of active sweating, the starch will turn dark blue or black.
The iodine-starch test is contraindicated in people with iodine intolerance.
HYPERHIDROSIS TREATMENT
First of all, treatment is aimed at eliminating the causes of hyperhidrosis. In the presence of primary hyperhidrosis or inability to eliminate the factors contributing to increased sweating is carried out symptomatic treatment.
Treatment methods for hyperhidrosis include:
- Use of antiperspirants
- Physiotherapy
- Use of botulinum toxins
- Surgical treatment.
The use of antiperspirants and physiotherapy treatment is temporary, the effect of such methods lasts for the period of application, then increased sweating returns in the same amounts.
Our clinic utilizes the most effective ways to treat hyperhidrosis.
BOTULINUM TOXIN APPLICATION
Treatment of hyperhidrosis with Botox consists of intradermal injections of the drug in areas with the most pronounced sweating.
Before the procedure, the area of the procedure is marked with a marker and local anesthesia is applied, then injections of the drug are carried out. The recovery period is minimized and manifests itself in mild swelling and bruising.
The principle of action of botulinum toxin is to block the nerve impulse to the sweat gland.
The effect comes after a few days and lasts for six months. To maintain the therapeutic effect it is necessary to repeat the injections once every 6 months.
SURGICAL TREATMENT
When hyperhidrosis is diagnosed, the surgery is performed under local anesthesia and consists of removing the sweat glands using a special curette. The curette is inserted under the skin through a small incision. The duration of the procedure takes no more than 40-50 minutes.
The effectiveness of this method is more than 70% and is permanent.
The downside of the surgery is that it is only possible to remove sweat glands in the axillae.
TYPES OF CURETTAGE:
- Aspiration
- Ultrasonic
- Laser.
In ultrasound and laser curettage, the sweat glands are destroyed by laser or ultrasound. The disadvantage of these techniques is low efficiency and high risk of complications.
In aspiration sweat gland removal, the sweat glands are destroyed with a curette and sucked out with an aspirator similar to liposuction.
AFTER OPERATION
The recovery period does not take long and also does not require supervision by medical personnel.
Recommendations after hyperhidrosis treatment are as follows:
- Bandage the area of surgical treatment with an elastic bandage for 4-5 days
- Restriction of visits to baths, saunas, tanning salons for 2-3 weeks
- Restriction of heat and massage in the area of injections for 2 weeks.
CONTRAINDICATIONS
- Pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
- Infectious skin diseases
- Acute diseases
- Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus
- Oncology
- Mental illness.
POSSIBLE COMPLICATIONS
Complications in the treatment of hyperhidrosis can occur, mainly with surgical correction. The most frequent of them are:
- Disturbance of skin sensitivity
- Accumulation of interstitial fluid and formation of fibrous thickening
- Pigmentation
- Hematomas.
REVIEWS
People who decided to resort to the treatment of hyperhidrosis with Botox or through surgery, leave only positive reviews. The negative aspect of botulinum therapy is its short-lived effect and the need for repeated injections, but even this does not affect the satisfaction of patients suffering from hyperhidrosis.
