Biography

Dr. Wolfgang Schepp studied medicine at the University of Bonn (Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes). In 1981, Dr. Schepp graduated from the university and received his degree. After graduation, Prof. Schepp received a fellowship from the German Research Foundation of the Institute of Pharmacology and the University of Tübingen. This allowed him to engage in research activities under the supervision of Prof. J. Ruoff.

Dr. Schepp continued his further education in the field of internal medicine at the Medical Polyclinic of the University of Bonn under the guidance of Professor F. Krück. He then went on to the second Medical Clinic of the Technical University of Munich under the direction of Prof. M. Klassen. Thus, in 1988, Dr. Wolfgang Schepp became a specialist in internal medicine. In 1989, Dr. Wolfgang Schepp was promoted to the rank of Privat Associate Professor. After that, he worked for several years as a researcher at the University of California at Los Angeles under the supervision of Professors A.H. Soll, J.H. Walsh, and George Sachs.

In 1990, Dr. Wolfgang Schepp began working as a specialist in gastroenterology and senior physician at the II Medical Clinic of the Technical University of Munich. In 1993 he was appointed adjunct professor due to his outstanding scientific achievements, and already in 1997 he was appointed professor of gastroenterology at the Medical Faculty of the Technical University of Munich. In 1997 he was appointed head of the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Gastroenterologic Oncology at the Städtisches Klinikum München-Bogenhausen. From 2003 to 2006, he became Medical Director of the Klinikum Bogenhausen.

He was a member of the editorial boards of the German Society for Digestive and Metabolic Diseases. He has developed guidelines for pathologies such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (2004 and 2011 ), gastric cancer (2008), Helicobacter pylori infection and peptic ulcer disease (2015). In addition, he has been a board member of the German Federal Association of Gastroenterologists since 2007. Since 2010, the professor has been vice-chairman of the German Cancer Centers’ working group for colorectal diseases (ADDZ).

He was subsequently selected as head of the Commission on Medical Classification and Health Economics of the German Society for Gastroenterology, Digestive and Metabolic Diseases.
