Biography

Today, the number of patients with various diseases of the gastrointestinal tract is steadily increasing. However, correct and timely diagnosis is not always possible.

The Isar Clinic in Munich, Germany, has a department of gastroenterology, hepatology and oncology. The head of the department since 2012 is Prof. Thomas Oksenkyun, MD, PhD. His career began in 1994. At that time, he began studying medicine in Regensburg. During his studies, Prof. Thomas Oksenkyun did an internship in New York. After that, for two years, the professor was engaged in research activities at the University of California, San Francisco. In the future, Thomas Oksenkyun continued his work at the Munich Grosshadern University Hospital. At the same institution, he completed his training and passed the state examination in the specialties of internal medicine and gastroenterology.

Already in 1998, Prof. Thomas Oksenkyun founded the department at the University Hospital Grosshadern, which continues to treat patients with chronic inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. To date, about 2,500 patients have been examined and treated at this center.

Prof. Thomas Oksenkyun’s professional interest lies in the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. He also deals with the causes of these diseases. He is also closely involved in the treatment and diagnosis of Crohn’s disease and various forms of colitis. In 2011, his clinical and scientific experience led to the creation of the European Crohn’s Disease and Colitis Foundation. Thanks to this foundation, Thomas Oxenkühn and his staff have counseled and treated a great number of patients. From 2012 until today, Thomas Oksenkyun is the Chief Physician of the Colitis and Crohn’s Disease Center at the Isar Clinic.

In 2013, the professor was recognized as a leading specialist in the field of gastroenterology, being included in the list of renowned doctors according to Focus magazine. Thomas Oksenkyun is a member of various medical societies that deal with gastrointestinal diseases: the German Association for Digestive and Metabolic Diseases, the European Organization for Crohn’s Disease and Colitis and others.

In addition, the professor continues to be engaged in scientific work. Under his supervision, many scientific articles have been published on the topics of Crohn’s disease, treatment of ulcerative colitis. In 2009, Thomas Oksenkyun also published a book on nutritional guidelines for lactose intolerance.
