Dirk J. Bückelmann

Dr. Bückelmann began his training in 1976 at the Johann Wolfgang von Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main. In 1983, after passing his exams, Bückelmann received his license, which allowed him to begin his career path in cardiology. In addition, a year before graduation, Bückelmann defended his thesis at the University’s Faculty of Pharmacology under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Palm, MD. In addition to his clinical experience, Dirk Bückelmann worked as a research fellow at the Ludwig Maximilian University Hospital in Munich (Klinikum Groschadern). There he worked under the supervision of Prof. Ricker until 1986. In 1987, Dirk Bückelmann received a fellowship from the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Society), which allowed him to become a research fellow in the Department of Physiology at the University of Maryland (Baltimore, USA). After his scientific experience, he returned to the University of Munich as an assistant and continued his work with Prof. Ricker. At the same time, Dirk Bückelmann was trained as a therapist and received his therapeutic certificate in 1990 after passing the state examinations.

In 1991 he deepened his knowledge of cardiology. In 1992, he was appointed as a privatized associate professor at the Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich. In order to be able to fully treat and diagnose patients with various therapeutic pathologies, Dirk Bückelmann was certified as a pulmonologist in 1993. After his advanced training, Prof. Bückelmann worked as a senior physician at the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Cologne under the direction of Prof. Dr. Erdmann from 1993 to 2002.

Dirk Bückelmann was certified as an intensivist to work with critical patients. In 1997, Dirk Bückelmann was appointed professor at the University of Cologne. In 200, Prof. Bückelmann received the Frenkel Prize of the German Society of Cardiology for research activities.
