COPD is the initial stage of pulmonary emphysema, which is based on an irreversible process of stretching the alveoli of the lungs, due to inflammation of the airways and the formation of an increased amount of sputum, which leads to a lack of oxygen in the body, the appearance of coughing, shortness of breath.
The main method of treatment is drug therapy. In most cases, however, medication is not effective or reduces the symptoms for a short period of time. In Germany, in addition to medications, special rehabilitation trainings are used, where patients are taught the correct behavior during choking attacks. In the therapy of emphysema use oxygen unit, which helps to combat chronic respiratory failure. It is extremely rare to resort to surgical treatment, in which a part of the overstretched lungs is removed, but complications often develop after such an operation.
The peculiarity of emphysema treatment in the clinic is the use of endoscopic surgery. The technique of surgery allows to avoid formidable complications. During the operation with the help of a bronchoscope, endobronchial valves are installed, which do not allow the lung areas to further overstretch, and lead to a decrease in lung volume, as a result — improved breathing, symptoms disappear.
