The Department of Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology has been opened at the Interdisciplinary Cancer Center. The head of the department is Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Eiermann, MD. The department provides the whole range of gynecologic services. Specialists diagnose and treat infectious (bacterial and viral) and non-infectious gynecological diseases. In addition, the department performs both medical and surgical treatment of cancer. The clinic uses bisphosphonate treatment, antibody treatment and anti-hormonal therapy. In addition, the clinic pays great attention to cancer screening as an important part of prevention. For women starting in their 20s, our specialists recommend an annual cervical cancer screening smear and a test for human papillomavirus, which often causes cervical cancer. A pelvic ultrasound is also usually performed. In addition, a manual breast exam and, if necessary, a breast ultrasound is performed. Cancer follow-up should focus on the care of the affected organ. The specialists in the department focus on physical symptoms first, perform physical examination and appropriate ultrasound examinations, as well as important follow-up examinations such as mammograms, CT, PET-CT, bone scans, etc.
The Isar Clinic, which is affiliated with the Center, performs a full range of gynecologic surgical procedures.
In addition, the clinic provides prenatal care. Prenatal care includes all routine medical examinations recommended for expectant mothers, including ultrasound, Doppler ultrasound and CTG. Important screenings such as for toxoplasmosis, streptococci and gestational diabetes are also offered.
The clinic also provides diagnosis and treatment of adolescent diseases, counseling on contraception, sexual health and problems related to adolescence. In addition, counseling is provided throughout puberty, as well as HPV vaccination counseling. Second opinions are available at the clinic. The wide range of treatment options currently available, especially for advanced stages of cancer, often makes it difficult for patients and their relatives to decide on the right course of treatment. The clinic offers a second opinion to help make the vital and correct treatment decision for the disease.
