Treatment of hypertension in Germany

Hypertension is a condition of sustained increase in blood pressure to at least 140 over 90 mmHg. Blood pressure rises in many diseases, and hypertension is one of them. It occurs in about 9 out of 10 cases. If untreated, hypertension leads to extremely unpleasant consequences, including aortic aneurysm, pulmonary edema, heart attack, stroke, fatal hypertensive crises.

Diagnostic measures

On the one hand, diagnosis is easy, because you only need to record a steady increase in blood pressure. But on the other hand, it is necessary to make sure that it is a symptom of hypertension and not some other pathology.

In order not to make a mistake, German doctors interview the patient and find out such points:

• when I started having problems with my blood pressure;
• whether there are any serious symptoms, such as muscle weakness, tachycardia, headache;
• whether the patient is taking medications and supplements.

Also additionally, in order to properly prescribe treatment for hypertension, the doctor prescribes echocardiography, ultrasound of the neck vessels, etc.

How therapy works

Treatment of hypertension and its consequences in Germany is selected taking into account the individual characteristics of the patient and the severity of the disease. Most often it is the use of medications from different groups.
