Prof. Ulrich Schaller began his medical studies at the University of Munich in 1989. During his studies, the doctor completed a one-year internship at Hadassah University, Jerusalem, Israel. In 1996, he successfully passed his state exams. In addition, after graduation, the professor began working at the Shiley Eye Center, UCSD, La Jolla, California, USA under the supervision of Professor Freeman. During the following years he was trained at the Department of Ophthalmology Мюнхенского Университета. The director at the time was Professor Anselm Kampik, MD. In 1998, he received his medical license, which allowed him to start clinical practice.

After 4 years of training at the Clinic of Ophthalmology of the University of Munich, Dr. Schaller became a specialist in ophthalmology. Since 2004, Ulrich Schaller has been working as a lecturer at the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Nairobi, in Kenya on a long-term lecturer program of the German Academic Exchange Service. After working in Kenya for one year, Prof. Schaller was appointed Senior Physician at the Clinic of Ophthalmology at the University of Munich.

In 2008, Dr. Schaller defended his dissertation on the treatment of uveal melanoma. Clinical and scientific experience led Dr. Schaller to become a senior consultant at the Ophthalmology Clinic of the Augsburg Hospital under the direction of Professor Arthur J. Muller, MD. Since 2013, Dr. Schaller has been an attending physician at the Duke Karl Theodor Ophthalmology Clinic. And in 2014, he worked with Dr. Rehfeld to diagnose and treat patients with eye diseases.

Dr. Schaller is a member of many German ophthalmic societies. Since 2008, he has been a lecturer and member of the examination board at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Munich.
